This week, myself and one other brave soul are taking part in a “New Year’s Cleanse” eating plan for seven days, to help kick those nasty holiday cravings for salt and sugar. You can read about what it is here. Both of us weighed ourselves in the beginning. We will be weighing ourselves at the end to report on the total weight loss, as well as one week later, once the normal eating “floodgates” have been opened, to get a better idea of longer term change.
Day Three
Yesterday was day three of the New Year’s Cleanse, which was Fruit and Vegetable Day. The directions for day three were as follows: “Same as day one and day two, except no potato today.”
Me: Day 3, and I managed to make it all the way through another day! I think this is the furthest I’ve gotten without caving on food, so I’m really proud of myself!
I had fruit for breakfast (cantaloupe, muskmelon, grapes, pineapple and strawberries), and fruit (grapes and apple) and vegetables (smashed carrots and turnip) for lunch. For supper I put cauliflower through a food processor to make cauliflower rice, and mixed that with green pepper, red pepper, jalapeno and onion for a stir fry. I added a little Mrs. Dash for flavor as well. It was really good, but not very filling. The leftovers I had, I combined with chicken to have on one of my chicken/turkey/vegetables days. I also munched on raw carrots and cucumber in the daytime. I’m definitely feeling the “sting” of not having some of my go-to favourites… but I haven’t wanted to cave…. Yet anyway!
Feedback from my healthy eating partner: Well the week-end was really a bust. Not a great time for me to start the cleanse, so I'm on to veggies only today - slightly behind schedule but we'll see if I can get through the week. I sautéed Brussel sprouts and mushrooms for breakfast and it was lovely. I'm looking forward to marching ahead all week.
Tomorrow is Day 4…. Dreaded day 4 (for me anyway)… historically this has been the toughest day for me: bananas and skim milk or yogurt!
