This week, myself and one other brave soul are taking part in a “New Year’s Cleanse” eating plan for seven days, to help kick those nasty holiday cravings for salt and sugar. You can read about what it is here. Both of us weighed ourselves in the beginning. We will be weighing ourselves at the end to report on the total weight loss, as well as one week later, once the normal eating “floodgates” have been opened, to get a better idea of longer term change.
Day One
Yesterday was Day one of the New Year’s Cleanse, which was Fruit Day. The directions for Day One were as follows: “Eat all the fruits you want, except bananas. The lowest calorie fruits are watermelon and cantaloupe, so if you eat mostly melons you will lose more weight.”
Me: I am extremely happy to report that I DID NOT CHEAT! I stuck with fruit all day long. I had melon, cantaloupe, pineapple, strawberries, apples, grapes (omg grapes… grapes are my favourite snack now), and clementines. For the most part, I did really well and only had one moment of weakness when some really great leftovers were left in the kitchen (one of my favourites of course)…. And I was SO tempted to cave, but I didn’t. My hubby came home at the perfect time and happily took care of the leftovers for me. For beverages, all day I drank hot water with lemon and loved it. I find that I struggle drinking regular water, even keeping a water bottle with me, because I used to be such a chronic coffee drinker… but hot water? I can down those no problem!
Feedback from my healthy eating partner: The day was great all fruit but we were invited to a family dinner and so supper was a fail. But today I'm on the veggies only.
Day Two is veggie day! How will our “Dynamic Duo” weather this day? Tune in tomorrow to find out!
