Day Five: Fowl and Tomatoes!

Day Five: Fowl and Tomatoes!

This week, myself and one other brave soul are taking part in a “New Year’s Cleanse” eating plan for seven days, to help kick those nasty holiday cravings for salt and sugar. You can read about what it is here. Both of us weighed ourselves in the beginning. We will be weighing ourselves at the end to report on the total weight loss, as well as one week later, once the normal eating “floodgates” have been opened, to get a better idea of longer term change.

Day Five

Last Friday was day five of the New Year’s Cleanse, which was fowl and tomatoes day. The directions for day five were as follows: “Chicken, Turkey and 6 tomatoes throughout the day. Make sure you drink a glass of water for each tomato you eat to wash the uric acid out of your body.”

Me: Day five went pretty good for me! I have an allergy to tomatoes, so I wasn’t able to eat those… so I opted for veggies instead. I had chicken breast and turkey breast as well. After the agony of Day 4, this was a very welcome day, and I honestly thought it would be a walk in the park for me (like it has on previous years.)  That was until one of my sons decided to come down for lunch… and I got him pizza at my favourite pizza shop in town. As we sat in my office chatting and having lunch, him enjoying his pizza, and me with my chicken… I got hungrier and hungrier for his pizza! After a while, I kept thinking in my head “just hurry up and finish it so I can’t grab a slice”… of course, that didn’t happen. He couldn’t finish two pieces, and asked me to bring them home with me for him. (OMG). The remainder of the afternoon I was very painfully aware that there were two slices of pizza in my lunch bag… I don’t think I’ve been hungrier for pizza in my life. For supper I had planned to make wraps (I was just going to have the wrap filling with no sauce), so I finally told myself that if I could withstand the temptation of pizza for the day, that for supper I’d include the whole wheat tortillas with my wraps (still no sauce)… and that’s what I did. I thought that was a pretty fair compromise for an afternoon of torture!

Once my healthy eating partner checks in, I will update as to how her days are going!

Tomorrow is really a repeat of Day 5 for me…. It’s chicken breast, turkey breast and veggies!
