This week’s Balance Your Life™ tip focuses on a simple way to incorporate a little meditation into your day.
No doubt you’ve heard about the benefits of meditation, such as:
· Reduces stress
· Improves concentration
· Increases happiness
· Benefits cardiovascular and immune health
Even knowing the benefits, for many of us it’s just a matter of knowing where to start, and how to start. There are several apps available can assist with meditation (and we’ve talked about a few through this blog. For a list of wellness apps that Belmont Health & Wealth has reviewed, please see here.) Meditation doesn’t have to be complicated; really, the only thing to remember is STOP.
The “STOP” concept for meditation was something I came across in a book I was reading, and it was introduced by Deepak Chopra, and it’s very easy to do. During your day, whenever you’re feeling overrun, stressed, or feel like your mind is going a million miles an hour, just STOP:
· Stop
· Take three deep breaths
· Observe
· Proceed with kindness and joy and love
When you STOP to identify, it forces you to slow down, and acknowledge whatever it is that is causing you stress or giving you that overrun feeling. You take three deep breaths to slow everything down, observe what it is that is causing the stress, and then once acknowledged proceed with a positive mindset. Just the act of acknowledgement can make us feel a bit more in control of the situation, which keeps us from feeling overrun.
Just remember STOP, and START having better days!
