Day Four

Day Four

This week, staff from Belmont Health & Wealth (four in total) are taking part in a “New Year’s Cleanse” eating plan for seven days, to help kick those nasty holiday cravings for salt and sugar. You can read about what it is here. Belmont employees were all encouraged to weigh themselves before the week started. We will be weighing ourselves at the end to report on the total weight loss, then again one week later to report on how we are doing once we “open the floodgates” back up to eating normally. The hope for this week is to not only kick some unhealthy cravings, but jump start some healthy eating habits! I will report my progress, as well as staff (who are participating anonymously).

Day Four

Yesterday was day four of the New Year’s Cleanse, which was Banana and Skim Milk day. The directions for day four were as follows: “Eat as many as eight bananas, and 8 glasses of skim milk or Weight Watchers yogurt if you aren’t a milk drinker, since it’s basically artificially flavoured skim milk. Yes, bananas are high in calories and carbohydrates, but on this day your body will need the essential calcium and carbs and protein that will lessen your craving for sweets.”

Me: Can I just preempt this by saying I am SO sick of bananas? This day by far was the most challenging for me because bananas aren’t a favourite of mine, and I normally don’t drink any milk. However, through the day I did trudge through, and had three bananas and skim milk. By supper time, the thought of eating another banana … I just couldn’t do it. So I ended up having whole wheat pasta instead. I did get my eight glasses of water in, as well as my exercise. So overall, I’m still happy with my progress!

Agent A: I ended up having a little pork for supper. Other than that it was good.

Agent B: Major fail...I managed to get through breakfast OK but it seems Baton Rouge doesn't serve bananas and yogurt for lunch and dinner, well let's just say unless bananas taste like salmon I didn't comply... Today will be better...no lunch meeting will help.

Agent C: Yesterday went well actually.  I managed to get 5 bananas into me in total – in smoothies with milk.  I had a personal trainer session last night so I had a chicken and veggie wrap before I went to that.
