This week, staff from Belmont Health & Wealth (four in total) are taking part in a “New Year’s Cleanse” eating plan for seven days, to help kick those nasty holiday cravings for salt and sugar. You can read about what it is here. Belmont employees were all encouraged to weigh themselves before the week started. We will be weighing ourselves at the end to report on the total weight loss, then again one week later to report on how we are doing once we “open the floodgates” back up to eating normally. The hope for this week is to not only kick some unhealthy cravings, but jump start some healthy eating habits! I will report my progress, as well as staff (who are participating anonymously).
Day Two
Yesterday was day two of the New Year’s Cleanse, which was Vegetable Day. The directions for day two were as follows: “Eat lots of vegetables – fresh, raw, or cooked. Stay away from starchy vegetables such as peas, corn and beans. SURPRISE! You also get a baked potato with butter today.”
Me: I am happy to report that two days in and I still haven’t slipped!! I found day two a little easier than the first day because I was able to eat anything heated up. Especially at supper time, it doesn’t feel like I’ve really eaten a meal if I haven’t had a hot meal. The only time that was really challenging for me yesterday was lunchtime, when I had green beans… and maybe it’s just me but there didn’t seem to be any way to “jazz up” a bowl of green beans! I had carrots, cucumber, a salad with romaine, cucumber, carrot and onion, my scrumptious bowl of green beans, and for supper steamed carrots and the baked potato (with real, no salt butter) that was TO DIE FOR! One thing I’ve noticed for the last two days now is that I’m not getting that “3:00PM slump” where you get really tired for no reason. I’m also going to bed earlier (likely so I don’t cheat and snack on something), but for the last two nights I’ve made my sleep goal as well, which doesn’t always happen!
Agent A: I had asparagus for lunch... I had a bunch of other veggies with me but since I didn't take lunch I didn't eat. For supper I had more asparagus half a big sweet potato and beets. I found it easier today. I love salads to begin with so I was kind of bummed I didn't have one at lunch. And staying busy helped too. (For cheating) Today was much better… only salt, pepper, pepsi and a little bit of salmon.
Agent B: Well it was a little better than day 1. Cereal again (who can eat veggies for breakfast?) but a small veggie tray for lunch and turkey soup for dinner...lots of veggies and only a little turkey. No baked potato but some in the soup. Today I will really try harder!
Agent C: Yesterday went well all day at work. I probably did not eat enough during the day, by dinnertime I was very hungry. Got through that. And…..checked weighed myself this morning and have lost two pounds. Yay!
