Are you distracted easily? Do you start a project, and then wander off only to start another? Believe it or not, doing this can actually cause you stress. Having too many things up in the air and unresolved can you leave you with a restless, unsatisfied feeling. The answer to this is simple: Finish what you start. Now when I say that, I'm not talking about this:
The key to this is good planning. When you make a plan to start something, it is just as important to make a plan to finish it. Set some realistic goals, if you can set goals along the way, so that on your way to the ultimate accomplishment, you have the opportunity to reach little accomplishments as well. If it's a large job, such as a home renovation, set a budget and stick with it. Nothing takes the wind out of your sails quicker than a do-it-yourself project becoming more expensive than if you'd hired a professional to begin with! Keep your projects realistic. If you've never picked up a hammer, chances are building a hope chest may not be the best choice for a project. Focus on the things you enjoy... the things you're good at... and look for projects to create around that. Studies have shown the more engaged we remain in activities, even if it's a project that requires learning something new, our cognizant thoughts and mental ability stay sharper for longer. For an added bonus, find a project you can share with a spouse, child or friend. If you involve someone else, chances are you'll be more motivated to see it through till the end! So take some time to assess the things around you. What can you finish that will help you toward your stress-free self-finding some inner peace? Image courtesy of BrianHolm/ FreeDigitalPhotos.net
