10,000 steps a day. Every day. When many of us hear that, we think to ourselves “I’m pretty active, I’m sure I get that every day.” However, unless your job keeps you on your feet all day you may be surprised to realize you’re way under the recommended daily dose.
For others, hearing 10,000 steps sounds way too difficult and unachievable. But it really doesn’t have to be! For those of us who work in an office setting, getting 10,000 steps a day becomes something you need to work for. When I first got FitBit (you can read about it here: http://gobelmont.ca/blog/get-a-bit-fit-with-fitbit/ ) on day 1 I made a point of not doing anything outside of what I would classify a “normal day”. And at the end of the day, my step count was under 4,000!
Incorporating a brisk walk every day into your schedule, at least 30 minutes long, can help you to achieve two things: not only will it aid in reaching your 10,000 step goal, but it also can play into another fitness goal we should all be meeting: at least 30 minutes of what is classified as “very active minutes”.
Couple this with your recommended 48 ounces of water and you’ll be amazed how good you feel! Now that Spring is upon us (…. It IS upon us, right? Please no more snow please no more snow…) there’s no better time to start than today!
