Can you really math your plate to give you an indication of how much of which types of foods you should be eating? Yes, yes you can!

Controlling your food intake accounts for 85% of your success in weight loss. Take a look at 85-15 yes really for more information on that. Many people stress about their food plans… or feel that the only way they’ll be successful is if they adopt the diet of a rabbit, and chew on lettuce all day long. Taking extreme measures like that isn’t healthy either, and let’s be honest: if you’re putting yourself on a salad only meal plan, all it takes is one good juicy burger commercial and you’re off the wagon.

As with anything the best thing to do is start with something manageable and measurable. Like, for instance, your dinner plate. For every plate of food you consume, math it up by splitting it into ¼’s (in your mind only… actually splitting your plate is going to make it super difficult to eat off of!) On your plate fill ¼ of it with a protein, ¼ of it with a carb, and half…. Yes half… of it with vegetables.

It’s still important to be mindful of making healthy choices in order to be successful… but by adopting this approach maybe you can skip counting each calorie you put in your mouth or consulting five dieticians every time you want to have a meal. Interesting side note: that carb quarter on your plate? Yea, believe it or not fruit goes there. I would venture to bet one of the mistakes many of us make on our food diet is adding fruit to the half of the plate, because after all the Canada Food Guide recommends the servings of fruits and vegetables together… so common sense would dictate they get reported together. But no. Really, fruits are nothing more than natural sugars and carbs. So put those apples and strawberries next to your pasta, potatoes and rice!
