Colour Me Calm

Colour Me Calm

You’ve probably heard people talking about meditation, and all the benefits of it. However, unless you’ve attended fitness classes that incorporate breathing and meditation as part of their workout, like Yoga, you may be unsure of how to start. It really doesn’t have to be complicated at all. Just remember: Colour me calm.

All meditation really is, is “being in the moment”. Pushing aside thoughts about yesterday or tomorrow, worries or stresses, and just letting yourself enjoy the moment at hand. This can require some training of your mind, but a great way to start off is, believe it or not, by colouring. Colouring forces you to focus on what you’re working on, and can be very therapeutic. Not only does colouring as an adult help you to be in the moment, it can conjure up feelings of nostalgia and remembering a simpler time, if you were one of the many who coloured as a child. Remembering a time when you may have been more carefree helps to lower stress levels.

Not really digging those Spiderman and Hello Kitty colouring books? Believe it or not they have now made a series of colouring books for adults! You can order them online through Amazon, as well as bookstores. The designs and patterns are much more intricate, which causes you to focus your attention even more. For the more creative sorts, taking time to sketch or draw can reap these same benefits as well! Channel your inner Picasso and see what you can create!
