Belmont Health & Wealth created an Occupational Health and Safety Committee (OHSC) in early 2018. The purpose of this Committee is:

• To support the Internal Responsibility System (IRS) and provide a mechanism for joint resolution of occupational health and safety issues in the workplace.
• To provide joint assessment and input on Belmont Health & Wealth policy and programs related to health and safety and to make recommendations to senior management regarding such policy and programs.
• To provide joint evaluation and support of educational programs directed at eliminating risk related to occupational health and safety.
• To ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act in applicable provinces.

Workplace safety is something Belmont takes very seriously. Not only do we recognize the importance of this for our own staff, but because of the services we provide our clients, we know the impact workplace injuries can have on an organization.

The three leading causes of unintentional injury related deaths and hospitalizations for Canadians are:

• Falls
• Transportation incidents
• Poisoning

Research has also shown that over 99% of workplace accidents are preventable. OHSC strives to ensure that preventable accidents never occur.

Starting in December, OHSC will be publishing a blog each month. Sometimes it may be a safety tip, other times we might share changes we have made in our office, and occasionally it may be new legislation that is passed to make all workplaces safer.
