By now, most of us have heard about the horror that unfolded in Moncton, NB. Over the course of the last week I’ve heard every opinion imaginable on what happened, but this blog isn’t about that. Regardless of whether you were one of the people simply horrified and sad at the incident that occurred, or if you were one of the people who felt too much was being made out of this story because, after all, police officers accept the risks when they become police officers, one thing that every single one of us can take away from this tragedy is to always be grateful and appreciative for the people we have in our life. How often in the course of a week do we become too busy with work, that we don’t take the time to slow down and spend time with the people in our lives who mean the most? How many of us have gotten to the end of the day and thought “OH I forgot to call _____. Ah well, I will call tomorrow.” The reality is that none of us are guaranteed a tomorrow, and all of us should take every opportunity to embrace and let those most important to us know exactly what they mean, and that they are valuable enough to spend our time on. We talk a great deal about Wellness and balancing our work/personal time. If there’s anything that all of us can take away from the tragedy that occurred, it should be that it’s not enough to just talk about it. Each of us should live it every day. To the families of the RCMP Officers, Belmont Health & Wealth extends its heartfelt sympathy. May you find a small comfort in the fact that a country is grieving with you.
