Sometimes all you need is a little Inspiration

With the first round of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics coming to a close and the Sochi 2014 Special Olympics soon to start, there are few of us who can deny the inspiration these games provide. The personal stories, tragedies and triumphs all played out on a world stage with countries coming together for a common goal has the power to motivate many. And for many of us… that’s all we need: a little motivation to get on track. So, with that in mind, here are your Sochi Gold Medal winners so far!

Justine Dufour-Lapointe – Women’s Moguls:  Justine is a Canadian freestyle skier from Montreal, Quebec. By winning the gold medal, she became the youngest freestyle Olympic champion ever at nineteen years of age.

In 2010, Alex became the first Canadian to win a gold medal at an Olympic Games held in Canada, and at the 2014 Sochi Games he became the first Olympian in history to defend his gold medal in any freestyle skiing event.

Dara Howell – Women’s Freestyle Skiing Slopestyle:  Dara is a Canadian Freestyle Skier from Huntsville, Ontario. With Dara’s gold medal she became the first freestyle skier to win gold in slopestyle, as this was an inaugural event at the Sochi 2014 games.

Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse – Women’s Bobsled:  Kaillie is from Calgary, Alberta and Heather is from Summerside, PEI. Both women are repeat gold medal champions, having also won the gold medal for the same event in Vancouver 2010. J

ennifer Jones, Kaitlyn Lawes, Jill Officer, Dawn McEwan, and Kirsten Wall – Women’s Curling:  Team Canada’s Women’s Curling team, led by Jennifer Jones, sealed Jennifer’s place in history to become the first female skip to go through the Games undefeated. The only male skip to achieve this was Kevin Martin from Team Canada in 2010.

Marielle Thompson – Freestyle Skiing Womens’ Ski Cross:  Marielle is a Canadian freestyle skier specializing in ski cross from North Vancouver, BC.  Thompson qualified third going into the elimination rounds for ski cross, and in the final Canada took Gold and Silver.
