What Moves You?

When any of us first set a goal that we hope to achieve, we fly out of the starting gate motivated and determined to make things happen. Flash forward a few weeks later and for many of us, our get up and go has got up and went. So how do we keep on track and stay motivated to see it through to the end?

Ask yourself: what moves you? What reasons did you have for wanting to make a change in the first place? Like a carrot in front of a donkey, you need to keep those in front of you, and keep working toward them. Whatever your motivation was, write it down and keep it somewhere you can see it each day. It’s a good reminder on why you started this journey in the first place. If you don’t know where you’re going, how will you know when you get there?

Set a specific, measurable goal: “I’m going to lose ____ pounds”…. “I’m going to dead lift ____ pounds”…. I’m going to run _____ km” and post this goal next to your reason for making the change. Every day you will then have the “This is why I started, and this is how I know when I will be finished” right there to see. And not only is it important to set your finish line, pick a big reward to give yourself when you get there…. Something you would normally never buy. It makes reaching your goal that much sweeter!
