Vegetarian. Vegan. Atkins. Raw Food. Non-Dairy. Ova/Fish. Gluten-Free. We’ve all heard the numerous food plans out there, all which guarantee REAL results. And with all the conflicting information it can be a little challenging to know what the right thing to do is. The best approach to anything is the KISS approach: Keep it Simple, Stupid! Regardless of your eating habits the majority of the time, there is a real benefit to picking one day a week to only eat raw food. For one, raw food is “living food”. Heat destroys many of the nutrients in food, as well as the natural enzymes which help in breaking down nutrients in a way that your body can use. By eating raw food you’re giving your body a weekly jumpstart that is incredibly beneficial. Raw food gives you extra energy too. More energy equals more activity which is also good for you! Not only will you have more energy in the day, but you’ll sleep better at night. It also helps with increased mental clarity. Incorporating a raw food day just one day a week can also give your body a bit of a detox/cleanse. Take a break from the junk food and heavy carbs. Not cooking also leads to no dishes and no cleanup, so pick a weekend day and have more down time/relax time! Another huge benefit… you can eat as much as you want. The more variety you eat the wider range of nutrients you’ll benefit from. And you won’t end up with that bloated blah feeling many heavier foods can give you. On your day of choice, be sure to have on-hand a variety of fruits, vegetables and nuts. Put everything out on a table and “buffet style” your whole day! Still not convinced?
