Positive thinking – we hear it all the time, and most of us try to walk the walk. Let’s be honest though… some days are WAY easier than others! It’s easy to maintain positive thoughts when you’re consciously thinking about it, but the real trick to unlocking the power of positive thought is to do it so much that it becomes second nature. Set the scene: you’re at work, listening to the radio and they announce that John Doe from Somewhere, Canada had the winning lottery numbers. You’ve already thrown your ticket away because you knew it wasn’t a winner. What’s your first thought? “That should have been me” or “Congratulations to him.”? Training your brain to be a positive powerhouse is no different than any other training. It takes practice practice practice. If you’re successful, however, there are some real benefits you can reap because of it. When you choose a positive attitude, not only will you notice a change in yourself but you will begin to notice a lot of positive qualities in other people. Focusing on the positive and not the negative will help create more meaningful friendships and relationships. You don’t have a second chance to make a first impression, and if you make positive thinking a priority you will always have a great first impression. This can have a big impact on the development of future relationships, whether it be personal or professional. Positive thinking is HEALTHY too! Several scientific studies have shown that people with a good, positive vibe are less likely to suffer from depression and they get ill less often than the negative thinkers. Anyone who has faced a terminal illness, cancer as an example, knows the power of staying optimistic. The very word “Disease” means that a person is not at ease. Buddha once said “We are what we think”…. So change your thoughts, and change your life! Positive thinking can be WEALTHY too! Positive people are more likely to be successful than the negative nellies. Happy people are more productive people, and let’s be honest just a joy to be around and work with. Say goodbye to stress. The main cause of stress is worry and negative thoughts. If you stop and think about it, stress never solves our problems, and many times we end up stressing about things that never happen. Make this your mantra: “I can’t control the circumstances around me, only how I choose to react to them”. And if all this doesn’t have you running out the door to smile at 10 random strangers, studies have shown that positive people are more beautiful to others. It happens naturally: smiling, friendly and happy people exude their inner beauty. So strap on that smile and take on the world!
