Why Chai?

Why Chai?

Why Chai? I’m sure many of us have heard that there are benefits to drinking Chai Tea, but what are the real reasons to put down that cup o’ joe and embrace the Chai culture? Is it more than just a “fad drink”? Are there properties in chai that are genuinely beneficial? The answer is yes, yes and yes! For starters, you would have to drink three cups of Chai Tea to equal one cup of coffee in caffeine content, and for strong coffee this ratio can increase as much as 6 to 1. Switching to Chai Tea cuts that intake right away, which is beneficial to all of us. Aside from the caffeine, Chai Tea is made up of ingredients that have inherently beneficial properties.

Check out the list below:

Cinnamon – Cinnamon increases circulation and opens breathing, increases awareness and vitality and reduces fatigue. It is also believed to be an aphrodisiac (break out the cinnamon rolls!)

Cardamom – Benefits the lungs, kidneys, heart and is a mood elevator. Who couldn’t use a good pick me up?

Clove – Clove aids in pain relief and has antiseptic attributes.

Black Pepper – Believed to support circulation and metabolism. (Metabolism? I just may start putting pepper on EVERYTHING from now on)

Chinese Star Anise – Star Anise is a cough remedy (which makes sense if you have ever smelled Anise!) and helps to freshen your breath. No more coffee breath for you!

Ginger – This is a stimulant for the circulatory and immune systems. Also helps with motion sickness.

Fennel – Fennel is used to help with kidney and ocular problems as well as laryngitis.

Chai tea is rich in antioxidants too! Even if you’re not ready to completely ditch the java train, try replacing one cup of coffee with a chai tea and go from there! Are there any Chai Tea drinkers out there? What has been your experience with Chai Tea?
